Nearly 2 Years Since Infant's Death, Caregiver Sentenced To 42 Years

GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — A man who was convicted of killing his infant daughter in Golden has been sentenced to 42 years in prison.

Kelly Ray Kerr was sentenced Wednesday for the July 21, 2017, death of his 3-month-old daughter, Olivia. The 39-year-old was convicted in March of child abuse resulting in death.

Authorities say Olivia's mother called 911 from work after Kerr told her the child was not breathing at a Lakewood home. Olivia died that night at the hospital.

She suffered multiple injuries, including a major skull fracture, multiple rib fractures and bruising on her face and jaw. The Jefferson County coroner determined that Olivia died of blunt-force trauma, and one of the experts testified during the trial that her injuries were consistent with having been shaken.
