Kayaker's Body Pulled From Arkansas River

SALIDA, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a kayaker's body was pulled from the water after he was tossed from his kayak in the Arkansas River south of Buena Vista.

The Chaffee County Sheriff's Office says the victim, whose name and age have not been released, was seen in his boat lodged on a rock near Fisherman's Bridge at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday. He was later seen floating face down behind his kayak about 1 ½ miles downstream.

It was the second death of the river in two days.

The sheriff's office says 40-year-old Johnathan M. Kennedy, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, was in the Pine Creek Rapid section of the river near Buena Vista when his kayak flipped Friday afternoon. His body was pulled from the river a short time later about a mile downstream.
