Justin Simmons Named AFC Special Teams Player Of The Week
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Broncos rookie safety Justin Simmons has been named the NFL's AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Simmons received the honor after Sunday's stellar block of an extra point attempt by the Saints in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The score was tied at 23 when the Saints lined up for the PAT. Simmons leaped over long snapper Justin Drescher and then blocked the kick. It resulted in an 84-yard, two-point defensive return by teammate Will Parks and led the Broncos to a 25-23 victory.
Simmons is a rookie out of Boston College. He was picked in the third round.
"When the game is on the line," Simmons said after the game, "I am the guy responsible for trying to block the kick."
