July 2014: One Of Wettest On Record For Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - An active month with heavy monsoon rainfall has pushed July 2014 into the top 10 wettest on record for Denver.

The city received 3.85 inches of rainfall at Denver International Airport, which is well above the 30-year normal of 2.16 inches.

Almost half of the month's precipitation fell on July 29, with 1.80" measured by midnight.

That set a new daily record for the date that has stood since 1944.

Since Jan. 1 the city is running above average on precipitation.

The heavy rain wasn't just confined to the city of Denver, many locations in northern, central and eastern Colorado saw heavy rain.

The following totals are as of 6 a.m. on Thursday, July 31.

Alamosa - 1.50" (+ 0.57")

Colorado Springs - 4.52" (+ 1.79")

Pueblo - 3.28" (+ 1.30")

La Junta - 4.65" (+ 2.88")

Lamar - 3.87" (+ 1.08")

Leadville - 2.47" (+ 0.69")

Springfield - 3.59" (+ 0.86")

Grand Junction - 1.02" (+ 0.44")

Craig - 1.67" (+ 0.57")

Aspen - 1.89" (+ 0.25")

Several parts of the Denver metropolitan area saw anywhere between 4 and 6 inches of rain during July, with some higher totals in the foothills.

Jefferson County - 7.06" (3.9 miles SE of Conifer)

Denver County - 5.65" (2.1 miles N of Cherry Hills Village)

Boulder County - 5.11" (3.5 miles S of Boulder)
