Power Of Lightning Strike That Injured Man Left Neighbor In A Haze

DENVER (CBS4) - A runner circling the City Park Golf Course was injured by a lightning strike on Tuesday.

Looking at the damage, Brad Kellmayer couldn't believe he was just across the street when lightning struck a tree on the outskirts of City Park Golf Course.

"Just as I went outside there was a crack of lightning and the thunder was instantaneous, that you always read about or hear about, it's like boom!" Kellmayer said.

The injured man was taken to the hospital in stable condition. It wasn't clear if he was hit by the bolt or debris from the splintered tree, which has a scar where it was hit.

Power was knocked out in the area, and Kellmayer said the power of the blast left him in a haze.

"I saw some people running on both sides of the street, I just didn't know where it came down," he said.

Lightning rolled down University in a black cloud on Monday afternoon. One house near the Denver Country Club was also struck. First responders did not find any fire in the home.

Golfers on the course were ordered to stop for 20 minutes, but started up again with the storm still overhead. The course says they were playing at their own risk.
