Cause Of Death Of Man Found In Avalanche Made Public

GARFIIELD COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A man who was found dead in an avalanche died of suffocation, according to authorities.

The Steamboat Pilot reports Jesse Christensen, 55, of Steamboat Springs, died from suffocation in an avalanche. He was reportedly not wearing proper safety gear.

Investigators believe Christensen and a friend triggered the slide in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area in Garfield County, and were then buried.

The other person made it out alive.
