Thief Takes Advantage Of Paralyzed Woman In Hospital

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - El Paso County deputies are looking for a man they say he stole a credit card from a paralyzed woman in the hospital last summer.

The suspect racked up $1,000 in charges on Jene Carey's credit card. Carey says the man befriended her at the hospital only to make her a victim. She was injured in an accident while serving in the Navy.

"He helped me into the restroom, and he said, 'When you're done, just pull the little cord and I'll come help you back to bed,' because I can't walk. I pulled the cord and I waited and waited," Carey said.

Her purse was under her pillow. Later in the day she got a call from her credit card company.

Although the crime occurred last summer, deputies just released the surveillance picture in the hopes someone recognizes the thief.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call the sheriff's office at (719) 208-1402.
