Jefferson County Scraps Plans For Proposed Halfway House Near Fairgrounds

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Jefferson County has scrapped plans for a proposed halfway house near a neighborhood and the fairgrounds after nearby residents protested.

Jeffco was considering a location right next to the Foothills Animal Shelter, Jefferson County Fairgrounds and Mesa View Estates neighborhood.

Before the plans were abandoned, the piece of empty property was causing a stir between neighbors and Jefferson County officials.

The proposal would have turned the empty lot into a community corrections facility which would have housed about 200 convicted felons.

The county said it is now considering other sites.
