Jefferson County Deputy Injured In Hit & Run On I-70

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A Jefferson County sheriff's deputy investigating several crashes was the victim of a hit-and-run Wednesday evening.

The incident happened at approximately 7 p.m. on Interstate 70 near the Chief Hosa exit as the deputy was working at a multi-vehicle pileup.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies are searching for a gold hatchback.

The deputy suffered minor injuries when the gold hatchback struck her and fled. She was transported to a hospital to be treated.

Many crashes involving five or more vehicles at a time began happening at approximately 6:15 p.m., forcing the closure of eastbound of I-70 between Morrison and Genesee for several hours.

"We were in the center lane trying to slow down and ran into the back of a truck, and then spun around then we were side clipped by another car sliding off the road. There were probably about 10 or 15 cars just sliding around but nobody could do anything," said driver Dan Lyons.
