Snowy Crashes On Highway 285 Leave 2 Officers Hurt

CONIFER, Colo. (CBS4) - Heavy snow and wet roads hit the Denver metro area on Sunday, and the storm on Mother's Day caught some drivers off guard.

Four vehicles including a Jefferson County deputy's squad car were involved in a pileup accident on Highway 285 on Sunday evening.

The crash happened at 7:02 p.m. just north of Conifer, and the deputy was taken to the hospital with injuries along with three other people in other cars.

Another crash involving a law officer took place a half hour later on Highway 285 near Fairplay. A trooper with the Colorado State Patrol was hurt along with a passenger in another car in a head-on crash. The trooper had minor injuries.

Officials with the Colorado Department of Transportation had hundreds of snowplows out Sunday night and into Monday morning as the snowfall continued.
