Jeffco Inmate Commits Suicide, 4th Jail Death This Year

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - A 32-year-old inmate at the Jefferson County Jail took his own life Thursday night in the fourth in-custody death at the jail this year.

The man, identified as Harley Jefferson Smith, was in the jail on traffic charges including careless driving. Jacki Kelley, a spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, said more information would be released soon.

She said the inmate was found dead Thursday night. Kelley said an investigation was underway and that family members of the deceased inmate were being notified.
