Holmes Defense Requests A Change Of Venue

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4) - The defense in the Aurora theater shootings case has formally filed a request for a change of venue in the case.

James Holmes' public defenders want the trial moved out of Arapahoe County. They said "unrelenting news coverage" has presented a one-sided history of Holmes' life.

In late February the judge in the case granted the prosecution's request for further psychiatric exams for Holmes, but to be done by the state, not the prosection's experts.

That has been put on hold pending a resolution of other motions filed by the defense.

Holmes pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges of killing 12 people and injuring of 70 more an Aurora movie theater in July 2012.
