Interim Denver Sheriff Will Not Seek Job

DENVER (CBS4) - Elias Diggins, the interim Denver sheriff, will not seek the permanent job, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation.

Several sources familiar with Diggins' decision-making process have told CBS4 Diggins, 41, recently decided not to apply for the full-time job.

Diggins has been with the department for 20 years and was named interim sheriff after the demotion earlier this year of Sheriff Gary Wilson.

Reached Monday morning, Diggins declined to discuss his decision but referred questions to Daelene Mix, a spokesperson for the Department of Safety. Mix confirmed the CBS4 report saying Diggins' decision came after discussions with his family.

Mix said Diggins has five children and decided his family commitments should take precedence over pursuing the sheriff's job.
