Colorado Inmate Shot Trying To Escape From Courtroom

STERLING, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a state corrections officer shot an inmate who was trying to escape from a courtroom in northeastern Colorado.

Twenty-nine-year-old Brian Estrada was shot at the Logan County court house in Sterling on Wednesday afternoon.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the shooting, says Estrada was treated at a hospital in Sterling and then taken to Denver Health Medical Center.

Court was closed for the day after the shooting. No other injuries were reported, and investigators have not released any other details.

The sheriff's office initially said multiple officers were involved, but the corrections department later clarified that only one officer opened fire. That officer is on paid administrative leave.
