Independence Pass Expected To Close For Winter Season Friday

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Transportation officials are preparing to close Independence Pass near Aspen for the winter season.

The Department of Transportation says it plans to close the scenic pass at noon on Friday. But a winter storm is expected to bring snow to the area beginning Tuesday, which could force road crews to close the pass earlier.

The 12,095-foot pass typically remains open until Nov. 7 each year, depending on the weather, and it usually opens the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend.
