IKEA Considers Broomfield As Site Of Second Denver-Area Store

DENVER (CBS4) - IKEA announced Thursday that it has identified a site in Broomfield that could be the location of their second store in the Denver metro area.

The potential IKEA site is located at the intersection of Interstate 25 and East Baseline Road, and sits on a 123-acre parcel of land 17 miles north of downtown Denver.

"A store in this retail corridor would … provide customers in the northern part of the Front Range an IKEA store closer to them," said IKEA U.S. president Lars Petersson in a press release. The statement also says IKEA would provide significant annual sales and property tax revenue.

The company has not yet determined an exact time frame for building or store opening, but the City of Broomfield has begun the process of incorporating IKEA into its master regional plan.

IKEA said that once a timeline is set, the company will evaluate possibilities for on-site power generation to complement its current U.S. renewable energy presence at a majority of its stores.

IKEA currently has a store in Centennial, which opened in 2011.
