Iginla, Avs In 'Go For It' Mode
DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado Avalanche have lots of great young players on their roster and this year they will have a future Hall of Famer hopefully taking them to the next level.
Jarome Iginla is 37 but still playing well enough that the Avalanche gave him a three-year deal worth $16 million.
He was on hand on Thursday for Joe Sakic's annual golf tournament which raises money for the Food Bank of the Rockies.
He may be on the back nine of his career, but he's still a hungry, tough hockey player.
"I come in and I want to compete and play hard and play physical," he said. "I want to be good in the corners, strong in front of the net, and I like to get into it a little bit. And really the biggest thing is to have fun competing."
Sakic, a Hall of Famer himself, now calls the shots in the front office. He said he's always proud to be giving something back through his tournament.
"It's something that we're all proud of," Sakic said. "The Food Bank does so many great things and helps the children. Really at the end of the day we want to take care of them. Some of them are struggling and it's not their fault.
"Every year the tournament manages to raise 1 million meals for these kids."
