I-70 reopens in western Colorado after 20- and 30-car crashes; no injuries reported

Interstate 70 has reopened in western Colorado after two crashes — one involving 20 cars and the other involving 30.

The first crash was reported around 11:30 a.m. near milepost 130, west of Gypsum, and involved around 20 cars. The other crash, involving 30 vehicles, was reported in the westbound lanes near milepost 119, just east of Glenwood Springs, around 11:45 a.m.

Colorado State Patrol said no one was injured in either crash.

Traffic cameras from the Colorado Department of Transportation showed snowy conditions on the ground with snow actively falling, and multiple emergency vehicles, including police cars and at least one fire truck, at the scene.

The westbound lanes were closed just before noon from Dotsero to Glenwood Springs and reopened around 1:20 p.m. The eastbound lanes were then closed shortly after noon, but then reopened just before 3 p.m.

Glenwood Springs, a popular tourist destination known for its hot springs, is about 150 miles west of Denver.
