'I Could Have Touched His Car': Man Describes Close Call With Wrong-Way Driver
PARKER, Colo. (CBS4)- A man who was driving along South Parker Road when a wrong-way driver nearly struck him head-on, describes the experience.
The crash happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday at Parker Road and Jay Morgan Boulevard, and the wreck spread debris across the road.
George Humphrey said the wrong-way driver clipped his mirror on Parker Road before colliding with another vehicle.
When asked how close the driver came to hitting him, Humphrey replied, "Inches. Two, three inches maybe."
Police said the red Toyota Tacoma was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes for "quite some time" when it clipped one vehicle. Two people on a motorcycle saw what was happening and laid down the motorcycle.
The two people on the motorcycle suffered minor injuries.
"He passed me so fast that it was a blur. If I had to guess, I'd say my initial guess was 65 mph," said Humphrey.
The Tacoma went airborne over the motorcycle riders and collided with another vehicle. The truck then burst into flames. The driver of the Tacoma was killed.
"The guy was either severely intoxicated, so much so that he really had no idea where he was, what he was doing or he was on some suicide mission," said Humphrey.
Police found small bottles of alcohol at the scene.
