I-70 Temporarily Shut Down After Car, Trailer Catch Fire

BAKERVILLE, Colo. (CBS4) - A car and trailer caught fire on Interstate 70 Saturday afternoon.

Clear Creek Fire Authority received the call at 9:15 a.m. for a smoking pickup truck.

By the time crews arrived on scene, near Mile Marker 219 outside Bakerville, the truck was fully involved and the camper was catching fire. Both are a total loss.

The truck was pulled off in the chain-up lane, but westbound I-70 was shut down to protect firefighters and travelers. There were no injuries.

The cause is unknown, but the flames did start in the area of the engine compartment. CCFA said it was likely some type of failure or overheating.

Westbound I-70 was reopened at 10:20 a.m.
