Both Decks Of I-70 Partially Open In Glenwood Canyon

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Both decks of Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon are now partially back open after crews made good progress on repairs this week.

One eastbound lane and one westbound lane opened to traffic on Wednesday, eliminating the need for pace cars. A 35 mph speed limit is in place as repairs continue.

A 17-mile stretch of the highway closed for nearly a week after a Feb. 15 rock slide caused extensive damage.

Until Wednesday's partial re-opening, both eastbound and westbound traffic had been traveling head-to-head on the eastbound deck led by pace cars. The Colorado Department of Transportation warns there's a chance it will have to convert back to head-to-head traffic to do work on the westbound deck.
