I-70 Closures At Veterans Memorial Tunnels To Affect Mountain Traffic

IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Daytime lane closures along Interstate 70 near Idaho Springs will cause big delays next week for drivers heading to and coming from the mountains.

The Twin Tunnels are now called the Veterans Memorial Tunnels and that means crews need to affix new lettering. The Colorado Depart of Transportation says shadows cast by artificial light at night require the work to be done during the day.

The work starts Monday, July 13th, and goes through Thursday, July 16th. Drivers can expect single-lane closures in the westbound direction Monday and Tuesday and double-lane closures in the eastbound directions Thursday and Friday.

CDOT says they will take advantage of the lane closures to do some final painting and lighting work inside the tunnels.
