I-70 Bridge Closed For Emergency Repairs

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - The westbound lanes of 6th Avenue at Interstate 70 in Golden will remain closed for the next two days during emergency repairs after an accident left part of the bridge damaged.

One lane of traffic will be allowed through on the shoulder during the closure.

A piece of construction equipment on the back of a semi-truck hit the bridge Sunday night.

No one was hurt, but the accident took a chunk out of the bridge and concrete fell onto the road.

The Colorado Department of Transportation will close the lanes until 9 p.m. Wednesday and again from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday during repair work. CDOT said the repairs need to happen during the day because of safety reasons.

Drivers should expect big delays and are encouraged to choose alternate routes during the closure.
