I-25 To Be Closed Overnight From Colorado To Evans

DENVER (CBS4) - It won't be too long before you can ride your bike or walk across Interstate 25 on the Colorado Center Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge.

An $8 million construction project that's in progress will build a bridge that will allow cyclists and pedestrians to cross over the highway and will give commuters and travelers better access to a light rail station.

A stretch of the interstate will be closed in both directions Thursday night by 11 p.m. in order to begin a major step in the construction process for the pedestrian bridge. That closure will take place between Colorado Boulevard and East Evans Avenue.

The following detour routes will be in place, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation:

- Southbound I-25 traffic will exit at Colorado Blvd and then continue on Colorado Blvd to Evans Ave. to reconnect with southbound I-25

- Northbound I-25 traffic will exit at Evans Ave. and continue on Evans Ave to Colorado Blvd. to reconnect with northbound I-25

The bridge, when fully completed late next summer, will connect Cherry Street on the north end and RTD's Colorado Station on the south end.

The highway will reopen by 5:30 a.m. on Friday morning.
