Hurricane Could Delay Weather Satellite Built In Colorado
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Engineers at Lockheed Martin in Littleton are watching the path of Hurricane Matthew because it could delay the launch of a state-of-the-art weather satellite built in Colorado.
The GOES-R satellite has already made its way to Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Crews have tucked it away in a building that is sturdy enough to withstand a Category 4 hurricane.
The United Launch Alliance tweeted on Friday night that the satellite was not damaged by the storm even though the building it's being stored in lost power.
The launch is scheduled for Nov. 4. NASA is evaluating the storm's impact and could push back the launch.
