Hundreds Of Volunteers Help Clean Up South Platte River
DENVER (CBS4) - Hundreds of volunteers cleaned up the riverbanks of the South Platte River in Denver for the annual "Spring River Sweep" on Saturday.
The event also helped kick off the River Vision project, $25 million investment project in the river.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock took part in the effort, which was centered at Johnson Habitat Park. He said it was Step 1 of what will be some big changes in the area.
"Ultimately the goal is to have this be a destination where families can come and play and for people to relax and to recreate. I think it's going to be very important that some day we turn the Platte back to the people and say 'It's ready to go,' " Hancock said.
The mayor said he hopes to see more residential and commercial properties built along that stretch of the river in the future.
