Hundreds Of Homeless Receive Socks Thanks To CU Hospital's Burn Center

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Hundreds of Denver's homeless received a warm gift on Monday.

The University of Colorado Hospital's Burn Center handed out socks at Father Woody's Shelter. The Burn Center raises funds throughout the year to buy the socks.

The effort began after a nurse noticed many frostbite patients were homeless without the proper clothing to keep them warm.

"Prevention is key. Frostbite can be prevented by layering, by wearing warm, dry clothes -- dry being the key. If clothes get wet, frostbite sets in quicker," Laura Madsen with the Burn Center said.
