Groom Falls Ill, Couple Gets Married In Hospital

LONE TREE, Colo. (CBS4) - A medical emergency didn't keep a couple from saying their vows.

It was a moment Jourdan Bargmann had been dreaming of her entire life: looking into her fiancé's eyes and saying "I do."

Up until one week ago, she had no idea she'd have to say her vows to Kit Bargmann twice in one day.

"Kit started getting sick on Sunday night, just a fever we thought it was going to blow over, and it didn't," Jourdan said.

By Thursday, Kit was admitted to Sky Ridge Medical Center and diagnosed with pneumonia.

As he went into kidney failure, their plans for a wedding at The Lake House at Cherry Creek quickly started to unravel.

"It really takes the wind out of your sails when the doctor looks at you and says, 'I can't recommend you going to your own wedding,'" Kit said.

Friends and family members stepped in and made sure the ceremony came to him Saturday morning.

"There's no feeling that you love someone that much, and they love you that much, that they're willing to move heaven and earth just to make sure we have our day together," Kit said.

Jourdan and Kit exchanged vows at the hospital, complete with a kiss, and a piece of wedding cake, to seal the deal.

Later, everyone was at the Lake House except for the groom.

He watched from his hospital bed thanks to modern technology.

"It felt like I was right there," Kit said.

For the rest of their lives, The Bargmann's will remember June 24 as the day they promised to love each other in sickness and health, not just once, but twice.

"We've got to be strong for each other and I think that's a great way to enter a marriage," Jourdan said.
