Homeowner Shoots At Man During Attempted Robbery

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4)- A man trying to break into a home was shot at by the homeowner but was not hit. Deputies caught up to the suspect a short time later.

It began with a knock on the front door of a home in the 7300 block of South Wellington Street in Centennial early Thursday morning.

A woman who was a former acquaintance of someone who was living in the home, knocked on the door around 2:45 a.m. Thursday.

When the homeowner approached the door, the suspect was nearby and allegedly tried to force his way into the home.

Deputies said when the homeowner fired a round at the suspect, he wasn't hit by the bullet and sped away in a car. He left the woman behind.

"The next step is to identify how they got there and why at 2:30 a.m. and what the relationship of this male is, that appears to be unknown to the family," said Arapahoe County Sheriff's Captain Chris George.

Deputies issued an alert for the suspect, a man driving a silver BMW. The car was later spotted in Parker and officers arrested Derek Ash.

Ash, 24, is being held for investigation of second-degree burglary and eluding.

The woman who knocked on the door of the home is cooperating with police but could face charges.
