Holiday Travelers Enjoying Low Gas Prices In Colorado

DENVER (CBS4) – Travelers usually don't have much to be happy about during the holiday season, but this year Coloradans can enjoy a break at the gas pump.

According to AAA Colorado, gas prices this Thanksgiving holiday are at pre-recession numbers.

AAA estimates 750,000 Coloradans will travel 50 miles or more this holiday weekend, more than 3.5 times the amount they traveled last year.

"This is the largest number of Thanksgiving travelers we've seen since 2008," Wave Dreher with AAA Colorado told KREX in Grand Junction, where prices are as low as $2.53 a gallon.

Mesa County has the lowest average gas price in Colorado at $3.68, according to GasBuddy.com.

Dreher said the improved economy and low gas prices are the two main contributors to the increase in travelers.

AAA expects gas prices to continue to fall through December and January.
