'Hippo Pies' On The Menu At Cheyenne Mountain Zoo On Pi Day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Some hippos at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo are enjoying a special day on Monday. Staff at the zoo in Colorado Springs celebrated Pi Day by providing their hippo pod with "hippo pies."
Pi Day with the Hippo PodIt's #PiDay (a.k.a. 3.14)! Our hippo pod is helping us celebrate with some extra special enrichment. Each hippo pie was hand made by keepers, and filled with some of the hippos' favorite treats: herbivore grain, applesauce, mashed bananas, cantaloupe, watermelon and strawberries.

The pies are filled with food the Nile hippos love:
- mashed bananas
- cantaloupe
- herbivore grain
- applesauce
- watermelon
- strawberries
They were made by hand by the zookeepers.
The day 3.14 is a celebration of the mathematical constant.
