Hiker Dies On Mount Sopris Despite CPR Attempts

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Pitkin County authorities say a man who was found unconscious near the summit of Mount Sopris has died.

Rescue teams had responded Thursday after two women discovered the man "unconscious" below the false summit of the 12,966-foot peak. The man's identity has not yet been released, but authorities said the man appeared to be in his 60s.

The two female hikers had performed CPR on the man but were unable to revive him.

The county coroner's office is completing an investigation along with the sheriff's office.
