The original slide occurred on the road midway between Ouray and Silverton on the border between Ouray and San Juan counties.

"It was about 6 feet high and 200 feet long on the highway center line," Nancy Shanks with CDOT said in a statement. "Crews closed the road, cleared the slide, escorted waiting traffic through and fully closed the pass again at midnight."
