Highest Portion Of Mount Evans Highway Now Closed

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The top portion of the Mount Evans Highway has closed for the season.

The Colorado Department of Transportation closed the top portion of State Highway 5 for the winter on Tuesday.

Each year CDOT closes the five-mile segment from Summit Lake to the top of Mount Evans the day after Labor Day per their agreement with the U.S. Forest Service. The top of Mount Evans is 14,264 feet.

The remaining 10 miles of the Mount Evans Highway from Echo Lake to Summit Lake remain open until early October unless weather creates adverse driving conditions.
