Highest Portion Of Mount Evans Highway Closes After Labor Day
CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The top portion of the Mount Evans Highway will close for the season after the Labor Day holiday.
The Colorado Department of Transportation will close the top portion of State Highway 5 for the winter on Sept. 2 at 8 a.m.
CDOT closes the five-mile segment from Summit Lake to the top of Mount Evans the day after Labor Day per their agreement with the U.S. Forest Service. The top of Mount Evans is 14,264 feet.
The remaining 10 miles of the Mount Evans Highway from Echo Lake to Summit Lake will remain open until early October unless weather creates adverse driving conditions.
