High School Football Player Who Died In Colorado Remembered

SHARON SPRINGS, Kan. (CBS4)- The high school football player who died at a Denver metro area hospital after he collapsed during a game was laid to rest on Tuesday.

Luke Schemm was flown to Swedish Medical Center last week where he was declared brain dead.

He was kept alive so family, friends and his football team could pay their respects. He died after his family made the decision to take him off life support.

Schemm, 17, had just scored 2-point conversion after a touchdown when he ran to the sidelines and collapsed. It happened during a playoff game between Wallace County and Otis Bison schools in Sharon Springs, Kansas about 220 miles east of Denver.

On Tuesday, friends, family and teammates gathered to say goodbye.

The Sharon Springs community set up a donation page for the family to help pay for the funeral. The family plans to use any extra donations to set up a scholarship in Luke's memory.
