High fire danger for Denver metro area and Front Range of Colorado

Warm, windy and dry across Colorado

A large, summer-like, high-pressure ridge is building over the southern Rockies in Colorado. This will bring the triple threat of low humidity, gusty winds, and possible record-breaking temperatures. This will boost the worry for high fire danger back to the Front Range and at least half of the state, including the Denver metro area.

That's why we have declared Saturday a First Alert Weather Day. You want to avoid any outdoor activities that could cause a spark because if a fire were to start, it could spread very quickly.

Temperatures across eastern Colorado will zoom into the 80s and 90s on Saturday. Denver's record is 85 degrees, set in 2023. The forecast high is 86 degrees, so we have the potential for a new record high for the Mile High City.

That, along with gusty winds up to 40 mph and humidity levels below 10%, has prompted the issuance of a Red Flag Warning for the entire Denver metro area, Front Range Foothills, and adjacent plains. The Warning runs from noon thru 8 p.m. and also covers a large portion of southern and western Colorado.

On Sunday, temperatures will drop into the upper 60s and low 70s. We have a chance to see a few rain showers in the late afternoon and early evening. Overnight Sunday into Monday, there's a chance for some of the rain to change to snow, but no accumulation is expected.
