Heavy Traffic Continues Along I-70 Into Mountains

DENVER (CBS4)- Heavy traffic is putting a damper on the plans of those hoping to escape the heat by heading into the mountains for the July 4 holiday weekend.

Heavy traffic continues to build westbound on Interstate 70 from Genesee to Idaho Springs.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said to expect at least one hour or more delays. That heavy traffic is expected to continue throughout the day.

The heavy traffic started on Thursday afternoon. There were reported 14 mile backups and hours of delays for those heading into the mountains on I-70 on Thursday evening.

CDOT is warning drivers of a similar situation on Sunday when everyone drives home.
