Heavy Rain Causes Street Flooding In Metro Area
DENVER (CBS4)- Heavy rain that pummeled the Denver metro area on Thursday evening caused some major street flooding that left dozens of cars stranded.
The rain started after 6 p.m. as a severe storm moved in over Colorado, bringing lightning and thunder.
That rain came down hard and fast and it was too much for the storm system to handle.
Several areas were flooded from Logan and Belleview in Englewood to Oxford and Santa Fe in Sheridan and Colorado Blvd. and Exposition in Denver.
One driver, Holly Schiltz, at Colorado Blvd. and Exposition was stranded for about 30 minutes after her car stalled in standing water and would not restart. Thankfully a Good Samaritan pulled over and helped her out.
"If you see water, pull over into a safe, dry neighborhood and stay, don't try to drive through it. And I know they say that all the time, but it's serious, they really mean it," said Schlitz.
"There are no tow trucks available because everybody is in the same boat. I've got a high-clearance vehicle with 4-wheel drive and a tow rope, so just trying to help out people on the way home," said Good Samaritan Brandon Musante.
There were also 17 flights delayed at Denver International Airport on Thursday evening because of the storms.
A Flood Warning was in effect for Denver, Arapahoe, Douglas and Elbert Counties until 3 a.m. Friday.
