Heavy Holiday Traffic Jams I-70 Going Into Mountains

DENVER (CBS4)- Heavy holiday traffic that backed up Interstate 70 throughout the day didn't let up after the sun went down.

Drivers hoping to spend the holiday in the mountains got stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic along I-70.

The backups began early in the day and continued throughout the evening.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said the worst backups are westbound I-70 from Lookout Mountain to Idaho Springs. Drivers should expect delays of an hour or more.

CDOT also said drivers should be aware of more backups on Sunday when everyone decides to return home.
