FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - Police are treating a death investigation as suspicious, after the body of a 23-year-old female was found floating in Sheldon Lake, inside City Park.

Police identified the deceased woman as Heather "Helena" Hoffmann, a Fort Collins resident.

Fort Collins dive teams recovered Hoffmann's body from the lake after receiving a 911 call after 6 p.m. Wednesday night.

Police said Hoffmann was last seen alive, as she left work at the McDonald's west of the Colorado State University campus. Security footage may have shown her leaving the building after 1 a.m. Wednesday.

"She typically did walk home from work," said Kate Kimble, spokesperson for Fort Collins Police Services.

Kimble said Hoffmann lived near City Park, which is north of the McDonald's she worked at.

"Obviously she didn't make it [home,]" Kimble said.

When the dive team recovered Hoffmann's body, she was still in her McDonald's uniform. Police also located her purse at the lake.

Although police could not elaborate on what made the death suspicious, they said residents would likely see more police activity as the week continued.

"People can expect to see a police presence around the park, and the lake," Kimble said.

Police asked anyone with information, or private surveillance video, to contact detectives.

Any information, including anonymous tips, could result in a cash reward.
