Hawaii Bracing For Impacts From Tropical Storm Darby

By Chris Spears

DENVER (CBS4) - Hawaii is preparing for a weekend with stormy weather as Tropical Storm Darby threatens to bring the island state a glancing blow of wind, rain and high surf.

The storm was heading due west as of late Friday morning but is expected to make a gradual turn toward the Big Island of Hawaii over the next 24 hours.

Computer forecast models keep the storm just east of Hawaii as it begins a trek to the northwest over the next few days, but it will be close enough to bring a stormy weekend to the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning and a flash flood watch for the Big Island of Hawaii.

A tropical storm watch has been posted for several other islands including Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe.
