Halfway House Client Wanted For Attempted Murder After Allegedly Assaulting Staff Member

ALAMOSA, Colo. (CBS4) - A corrections staff member was assaulted by a client early Thursday morning at the San Luis Valley Community Corrections halfway house.

The staff member was doing a routine bed check and a head count when the shower was heard running. The individual went to check on the shower and found it empty, then was attacked from behind.

The attacker, identified as Matthew Gray, 42, held a towel over the staff member's face in an attempt to choke the person.  The victim attempted to fight back, but was thrown to the ground and assaulted by Gray.

Two other clients were able to pull Gray off the staff member, who was then taken to the hospital.

Gray fled the facility and is still at large. An arrest warranted has been issued for Gray for attempted first degree murder, escape, and assault.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Alamosa Police Department at 719-589-2548, or CrimeStoppers at 719-589-4111.
