Habitat For Humanity Building Affordable Housing Near Downtown Denver

DENVER (CBS4)- Habitat for Humanity is busy working on new, affordable housing near Downtown Denver.

The organization is building eight townhomes near 9th and Mariposa, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

The townhomes are part of a larger development of nearly 800 affordable apartments and townhomes.

Habitat for Humanity teamed up with the Denver Housing Authority on the project.

"To able to partner with Denver Housing Authority in such a great neighborhood right next to Santa Fe's Art District, right next to the light rail, so it's a transit-oriented development, it's a really big deal," said Habitat for Humanity spokeswoman Robyn Burns. "It's great to be able to offer home ownership opportunities to low income families so close to downtown."

The new townhomes and apartments are being built around a central retail plaza, community garden, recreation center and park.
