Ground Broken On New Childhood Education Center
DENVER (CBS4) – There was a groundbreaking on a new childhood education center in one of Denver's poorest neighborhoods on Monday.
Mayor Michael Hancock joined federal and state officials along with the Volunteers of America Colorado branch to start building the new facility at Alameda Avenue and Yates Street in the Westwood neighborhood.
The mayor says investing in early childhood education is a must.
"What we recognize is that from the age of zero to 18 we must go for broke in investing in our young people, prepare them for what we call 'college or career,' " Hancock said.
The facility is set to open in the fall of 2015. It will have five classrooms and serve 170 children.
