Green Valley Ranch Homeowners Assess Bad Storm Damage

DENVER (CBS4) - Homeowners in one Denver neighborhood have been assessing the damage from Wednesday's round of strong storms.

CBS4 found the worst hail damage in Green Valley Ranch in northeast Denver. That area was right in the bulls-eye for the damaging storms.

There were contractors of all kinds in the neighborhood on Thursday giving out estimates. Homes sustained damage to siding, roofs, windows, screens, shrubs and more.

Most homeowners say they're going to wait to call their insurance companies because more storms are expected this week.

Richard Roberts says his Green Valley Ranch neighborhood is in disarray. His home and others are on the edge of a golf course, which left them the most exposed to the storm's hail and wind.

"They come in pretty hard and violent. It was about an hour or so -- the heart of the storm -- and tore everything up," Roberts said.

From shredded trees and screens to broken windows and siding that looks more like the scene out of a Western movie, the homes got beat up.

"I haven't contacted the insurance company yet because I'm waiting for (Thursday) afternoon's storm to blow through," Roberts said.

Insurance agents say to board up any broken windows to mitigate any new storm damage. Get the claim process moving because insurance company will assess and prioritize clients according to how serious their claims are. Usually home damage gets fixed first.

"This is life, this is Colorado; you have to expect this here," Robert said.
