According to Karen Carter with the Castle Rock Fire Department, units with 68 personnel from Castle Rock, Franktown, Larkspur, South Metro, Jackson 105, and Douglas County OEM responded.

"It increasingly got us a little more nervous," said resident Emily Graves.

The fire spread into the grass and was burning in scrub oak as well. Light winds fueled the fire which spread near Graves' home.

"It's super dry. That last little bought of snow we had helped a little bit but gosh, it sure seems like it's been a dry winter," said Graves.

The fire burned along a ridge near some homes but the Town of Castle Rock told CBS4 that no homes or animals were threatened.

Lake Gulch Road had to be temporarily closed. The cause of the fire was believed to be an electrical transformer that overloaded and caused power lines to arc as they were hit with high winds. There were no injuries reported.

"These fires move with the wind, these are light, flashy fuels that carry it at almost the speed of the wind," said Castle Rock Fire & Rescue Chief Art Morales.
