Giant Air Bag Designed To Urge Drivers To Buckle Up

DENVER (CBS4) - A giant air bag is on the side of a hotel in downtown Denver. The Colorado Department of Transportation put it there to remind people that an air bag won't save you from an unbuckled passenger.

They say the person who is not buckled up poses a serious danger to everyone in that car.

"In a crash they essentially become a projectile in that vehicle. They can injure or actually kill you in that crash as they launch through that vehicle," said CDOT spokesperson Sam Cole.

It's been 50 years since seat belts were required in all vehicles. The giant air bag is part of the "Beware of the Beltless" campaign.
