Get Ready For Spring With Denver Botanic Gardens Plant Sale

DENVER (CBS4)- Green thumbs are getting ready for the planting season with the annual Denver Botanic Gardens Spring Plant Sale.

It's the gardens biggest sale of the year and features a wide variety of annuals, perennials, fruits and vegetables. The sale also features a wide variety of xeriscape plants that thrive in low water conditions.

Mother's Day is considered the safe time to start planting in Colorado but this weekend's forecast of snow and rain is something to pay attention to.

"If you're here today and you're buying tender plants, soft basil, choleas, and some of the very frost-tender annuals, you may want to protect them until this little cold snap passes us by. But there are plenty of plants here, perennials, the water-smart plants, the xeriscape plants have all been outside and already hardened off and if we get some moisture and rain and if you can get them in the ground, get them planted just before that happens, that's kind of ideal timing," said Mike Bone, Curator of Steppe Collections at Denver Botanic Gardens.

The sale continues until 5 p.m. Friday and again from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission to the sale is free.
