Get Creative On National Handwriting Day

DENVER (CBS4) - So much of our world is digital in the modern day that there is hardly a use for writing. Everything from banking to grocery shopping to school assignments can be done online.

But the unique feeling of receiving a handwritten letter cannot be replicated by a computer. Nor can the expression that comes from physically writing your thoughts, keeping a journal or log, and hand writing your poetry or song lyrics. There's something undeniably special about writing.

And something personal about it too. Handwriting is recognizable and specific to each individual. The hours upon hours of script practice in elementary school produce a style all your own, which is lost in the digital type world.

The Writing Instrument Manufacturers Association says the purpose of this designated day is "to alert the public to the importance of handwriting." It's a chance "for all of us to re-explore the purity and power of handwriting."
